ARALDITE® 2012-1: fast-curing structural epoxy

Samaro presents ARALDITE® 2012-1, the shop-floor reformulation of the iconic ARALDITE® 2012: a 2-component, fast-curing, non-sag epoxy designed for metal-to-metal and mixed assemblies (composites, rigid plastics, glass) where speed, productivity, and repeatability are critical.

2012-1: consistent performance, modernized HSE profile

Developed to replace ARALDITE® 2012, the 2012-1 version retains the handling behavior and performance level of the original benchmark while updating the regulatory/HSE profile. Goal: a seamless production transition with no change to your habits (1:1 mix ratio, same uses, same process logic).

What’s changing between ARALDITE® 2012 and 2012-1

  • HSE-driven reformulation: updated resin/hardener system in a non-CMR logic (no intentional addition).
  • Aligned handling & performance: thixotropic rheology, cure speed, mechanical strengths, and durability very close to 2012.
  • Documentation & traceability: new A/B references and SDS for your HSE/quality files.

Key benefits

  • Controlled fast cure: short open time for high throughput; quick handling to free up workstations.
  • Non-sag: clean beads/fillets without slump, including vertical applications.
  • Substrate versatility: ideal for metals (steel, aluminum); effective on composites, rigid plastics, glass (pre-testing recommended).
  • Simple process: 1:1 by weight & volume, easy mixing in 2K cartridges or by scale.
  • Structural robustness: high shear strength and good peel resistance for durable joints in industrial environments.

Type :

2-component epoxy adhesive, thixotropic non-sag paste

Color (mixed): beige
Mix ratio (A:B): 1:1 by weight and volume
Open time (23 °C): 5–8 minutes — suitable for high-throughput production.
Handling strength (23 °C): ≈ 20 minutes — enables rapid handling.
Typical shear strength (23 °C, grit-blasted Al):  ≈ 20 MPa (order of magnitude)
Service temperature range (typical): ≈ –55 °C à +100 °C
“2012-1 is our go-to fast-cure: it dispenses cleanly with no sag, and the quick set frees up workstations without compromising strength. The switch from the legacy 2012 happened without changing our habits still 1:1, same gestures.”

2012-1 in practice: what your operators will see

  • Clean beads, no slump in fillets and thicker sections.
  • Fast, confident placement: a short working window to align/dispense/clean without losing time.
  • Strength build at 23 °C: handling in ≈ tens of minutes; load application after the recommended cure per the TDS.

Application best practices

Surface preparation: degrease (IPA/acetone), apply controlled abrasion (fine grit-blast on metals/composites), remove dust, then degrease again.

Metering & mixing: maintain 1:1. Mix thoroughly (scrape sides and bottom). Purge 2K cartridges before dispensing.

Dispensing: apply continuous beads with steady pressure; avoid entrapped air (adhesive thickness per joint design).

Curing: follow the TDS; room-temperature cure by default, with moderate heat acceleration if specified.

Durability & testing

  • Shear vs. temperature: maintains a high strength level across the typical service range.
  • Humidity/chemical aging: good resistance in industrial environments (always validate against your real-world conditions).
  • Impact / peel: tough profile suited to stressed assemblies.

Industries & use cases

  • Industrial bodywork / equipment: metal-to-metal joints, accessories, reinforcements.
  • Energy / rail: secondary assemblies subject to vibration and thermal cycling.
  • Maintenance / MRO: fast, reliable repairs on metals and rigid substrates.
  • Packaging / capital goods: fixings, inserts, metal–plastic interfaces.

FAQ – ARALDITE® 2012-1

🔹 Does the mix ratio change compared with 2012?
No. 1:1 by weight & volume (2K cartridges available).

🔹 What are the open time and handling time?
Short open time (a few minutes); handling in ≈ tens of minutes at 23 °C (depends on bead size/joint mass). Refer to the 2012-1 TDS.

🔹 Which substrates?
Primarily metals (steel/aluminum), but also composites, rigid plastics, and glass — perform preliminary tests.

🔹 Can the cure be accelerated?
Yes. As per the TDS, a moderate heat cure can shorten cycle time (validate any impact on properties).

🔹 Is 2012-1 “non-CMR”?
The reformulation targets a modernized HSE profile (no intentional addition of CMR substances). Always consult the current SDS.
