Grease
Industrial greases are used to protect mechanical components. They reduce friction, limit wear, prevent seizing, reduce noise, and protect against corrosion. Greases also help during assembly, improve sealing, and reduce heat buildup in moving parts.
Some formulations contain PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), a material that offers excellent resistance to heat, chemicals, and moisture. A PTFE grease is ideal for demanding environments, such as high temperatures, chemical exposure, or applications requiring long-term lubrication.
Well-known brands like Molykote™ and Krytox™ offer high-performance greases with PTFE. For example, Molykote™ greases with PTFE are used in the rail, automotive, and electronics industries. Krytox™ greases, based on fluorinated oils (PFPE), provide outstanding performance even under extreme conditions.
Industrial greases can be formulated with various base oils:
mineral oil,
white oil (for food-grade use),
PAO (polyalphaolefin) oil,
silicone oil,
ester or diester oil,
fluorosilicone oil,
PAG oil,
PFPE oil (as found in Krytox™ products).
The thickener used also plays an important role in grease performance:
lithium grease or lithium complex,
calcium grease or calcium complex,
aluminum complex grease,
bentone grease (clay-based), ideal for high temperatures.
Finally, certain greases are compatible with plastics, elastomers, and electrical components. They help prevent electrical arcing and extend system lifespan.
