Samaro presents ARALDITE® 2013-2, the “non-CMR” reformulation of ARALDITE® 2013-1: a 2-component paste epoxy, thixotropic, high-strength, and non-sag adhesive for structural bonding of metals and many other substrates (ceramics, glass, rubbers, rigid plastics). Cures at room temperature with chemical and environmental resistance and robust performance.
2013-2: Continuity of performance, modernized HSE profile
ARALDITE® 2013-2 joins Huntsman’s 2025 wave of epoxies with no intentionally added CMR substances and BPA-free, with a clear goal: preserve the performance DNA of 2013-1 while elevating the HSE profile.
What changes between ARALDITE® 2013-1 and 2013-2
- HSE reformulation: transition to 2013-2 within Huntsman’s 2025 “non-CMR” strategy.
- Usage & performance retained: thixotropic, non-sag paste; multi-material bonding; chemical/environmental resistance.
- Comparable shop window to 2013-1: pot life ≈ 120 min; handling strength ≈ 10 h at 23 °C (on standard test specimens).
Benefits
- Thixotropic / non-sag: clean beads with no slump, including fillets/thick sections.
- Substrate versatility: metals (core target), plus ceramics, glass, rubbers, rigid plastics.
- Comfortable processing: pot life ~120 min; handling strength ~10 h at 23 °C.
- Durability: good chemical & environmental resistance; high mechanical strength.

“On metal-to-metal bonds and mixed assemblies, ARALDITE® 2013-2 is clean to work with: the thixotropic paste doesn’t slump, and the 120-minute window gives you time to align and clamp without stress. In production, the transition from 2013-1 required no change in routines.”

2013-2 in practice: what your operators will experience
- Clean beads, no slump: neat application, including vertical joints up to a few millimetres.
- Stress-free positioning: ~120 min to align, clamp and clean; ~10 h at 23 °C to handling strength.
- Metal–metal & mixed assemblies: industrial bodywork, equipment, rail, aerospace (secondary parts), etc.
Application best practices
Surface prep: degrease (acetone/isopropyl alcohol), controlled abrasion (fine blasting on metals/composites), dust off, degrease again.
Metering & mixing: keep 1:1 ratio; mix thoroughly to full homogeneity; purge a few centimetres when using 2K cartridges.
Bead application: continuous beads with steady pressure; avoid entrapped air; recommended bond line for shear joints: 0.1–0.3 mm.
Curing: hold parts in position (clamping/fixturing) up to 1 MPa; strength build-up can be accelerated with a moderate post-cure (e.g., 16 h / 40 °C) as required.
Durability & testing
-
Shear vs. temperature (ISO 4587): typical profile up to ~80–100 °C depending on cure conditions.
-
Chemical & humidity ageing: good performance after immersion and cataplasm (ISO 9142 E2).
-
Mechanical properties (23 °C, 16 h/40 °C): tensile strength ≈ 36 MPa, Shore D ≈ 75, compressive modulus ≈ 2.98 GPa (typical data).
Sectors & use cases
- Transport / industrial bodywork: metal skins, stiffeners, accessories.
- Rail & aerospace (secondary parts): metal/composite assemblies.
- Equipment, energy & process: metal–plastic interfaces, demanding environments.
